Priela eBook Jocelyn Karney

Priela is a modern-day version of Mean Girls meets Alice in Wonderland. We follow our heroine as she leaves the human world to join a magical alternative school designed specifically for Muses. At first, she’s excited to escape the realities of her human life, but she soon realizes that there’s a dark eeriness to Gaia. Things in this parallel universe aren’t what they seem. She grows wings but can’t fly, she turns invisible, but only at times that are inconvenient, and there’s a vicious mean girl who taunts her incessantly. I found myself cheering for Priela throughout her journey, and hoping that there’d be a second book in this series when I reached the last page.

Priela eBook Jocelyn Karney Reviews

Priela is a teenage girl who has trouble fitting in at her high school. She is easy to relate to if you ever felt like you stuck out when you were in school. Besides being very smart in math, she doesn’t seem to really have an artistic knack. Kids make fun of her, the teachers at her school are awfully mean and rude…basically her life is downright unenjoyable. One day though, she finds out from her eccentric mother that she is actually a muse. She is then given the choice between staying at her current school in the human world or she can go to the muse school her mother went to as a girl in Gaia. Well, if you had an awful life at your current school, which would you choose?
We follow Priela as she meets new classmates and teachers. She learns that things in Gaia are much different than in the human world. As a muse she is pretty much required to have an artistic quality to use and so we read as she struggles along trying to find her place in this new world of hers.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. As someone who didn’t quite fit in in high school, I definitely sympathized with Priela. It certainly would have been nice to have the option of having a different life at that time! The author did a good job with creating the fantasy land of Gaia and all the characters that came with it. I would recommend this book if you like interesting fantasy type books.
Loved this book! Great price right now too! The author leads you through the teenage life of Priela. She doesn't fit in at highschool, then finds out she's not even human, but a muse. She hopes to escape humanity pretty much and delve into the world of Gaia, the muse world. She quickly finds out she doesn't fit in anywhere. She feels the need to help others but has no permission to do so. How can she live her life being no one and no where, she simply can't. Such emotins brought out because of this read. I felt so awful for some of these folks and their stories. I felt awful and hopeful because of Priela too. Such a good book. I found myself pumping my fist and celebrating at times while shaking my fist at others. Well worth the read, and a steal at the current price. I soooo hope there are more of these books to come!!!!
Priea does for Muses what Harry Potter did for witches and muggles.

I read the first half of Priela on a flight to London; the second half on my return. The novel -- especially the second half -- is a page turner. I didn't leave my seat until the end I needed to know what happened next. I cared about the characters and was fully engrossed in the plot.

I loved the alternative reality the author created and cared to see how all the nuances and dangling ideas played out. The basic premise -- that art doesn't live in a vacuum and one is not required to starve to create good art -- is a terrific point. And I found the metaphors crisp and engaging e.g., pixies about the size of Barbie Dolls.

I don't know if this is the beginning of a franchise. But it ought to be.
What an entertaining story regarding the lovely fantasy land of fairies, muses, sprites and all things fun and bright. I loved Priela's dilemma as wanting to truly help people and seeing their needs regardless of the risk of being kicked out of her new school as she couldn't see the artistic talents of her charges. She was a truly engaging and interesting character. She’s strong and independent and determined to help everyone. A great story for all ages for enjoying the young at heart.
This is a fantastic book by Jocelyn Karney and even for an adult, a joy to read. Priela, the main character, is full of life -- and following through her various journeys (and her personal growth) in the fantasy land of Gaia is both exciting on a narrative level but also meaningful on a personal level. The magic of this book is not necessarily the fully-fleshed out characters or the page-turning prose, but because it does one timeless thing so well it makes you relate to Priela and think about your own experiences in the real world (no matter your age I might add!) as she navigates her adolescence and all the "growing pains" -- both tough and beautiful -- that come along the way. Jocelyn does a marvelous job both creating relatable and complex characters that are interwoven into an interesting and ultimately uplifting story. As someone who has worked for many years in education, I would certainly recommended this book for young people of all ages -- there are many worthwhile lessons to be learned!
