Probably not quite a five star read, but I rounded up because of the BEST chapter 13 ever. Loved it!!!The Rake is the story of misunderstanding, miscommunication, redemption, and tenacity. Tristan was a young, stupid, and reckless young man who badly hurt Georgiana six years earlier when he seemed to seduce her into falling in love with him simply to win a wager. Once she learned of the wager she left him, only to spend the next six years hating him and tormenting him at every opportunity. Now, she has made plans to teach Tristan a lesson about how to properly treat a lady, and she plans to do this by seducing him into falling in love with her, only to leave him heart broken in the same way that he did to her so many years earlier. But, it turns out, things are not quite as she thinks they are. Tristan's motives six years earlier were not quite as nefarious as Georgie imagined, and it turns out that despite the tension that follows them when they meet, Tristan actually likes her quite a bit ... and Georgie is starting to like him right back. That's going to throw a giant wrench in her plans to teach him a lesson.
This is the first book I have read by Suzanne Enoch, and I really enjoyed her writing. She manages to tell an engaging, sometimes funny, sometimes heart pounding, and occasionally touching story of two people who both have a few things to learn about how to trust and how to love each other. I really loved the hero, Tristan. He has obviously overcome some pretty huge flaws from his youth. The book doesn't really dwell much on those flaws, but it does show a man who has learned from his mistakes and has the strength to fight to prove his redemption to those he loves. Georgie could be a bit irritating at times when it seemed clear to EVERYONE that she was in love with Tristan, but she still held on to her lack of trust and inability to truly forgive him for his past deeds. However, having said that, I think that the emotional trauma that she faced because of Tristan's wager, whether or not he truly meant to hurt her, gives her the right to hold a pretty large grudge, in my opinion.
The secondary characters in this story, especially Tristan's family, were wonderful. I am especially excited to read Robert's story and see how he comes to overcome the trauma that occurred to him in a French prison. That issue was barely scratched in this story, but I have a feeling that it will be an amazing story to read eventually.
And kudos to a story where the main couple actually are HONEST with one another without much delay. After Georgie and Tristan decide that they aren't going to fight these feelings for each other, I was so glad to see them talk to each other about the bad situations they were facing rather than keeping it to themselves in order to "protect" the other from being hurt ... a major pet peeve of mine in these stories. It allowed the two of them to solve their problems together. Loved that.
This is your fairly typical regency romance. Boy likes girl. Girl likes boy. Something keeps them apart. Struggles are overcome. Happily Ever After. There is nothing highly original in this story, but it is told in such a sweet and fun way that it makes it worth the read. I truly enjoyed it. Five stars!!

The Rake Lessons in Love Book 1 Suzanne Enoch 9780380820825 Books Reviews
Just when you thought there could be nothing new, this book happened. A tangle of two people who thought they hated each other and the woman who wanted to ensure no other woman would fall into his trap and yet she was the one who fell. Everything ironed out in the end but there were many glitches along the way. Just when the reader is convinced nothing else could go wrong, it does.
This first book in Enoch's Lessons in Love series establishes the relationship between the three friends, Georginia, Evelyn and Lucinda, and the premise for the "lessons." Georginia's love/hate relationship with Tristan is fun and Tristan's family is introduced. We meet Tristan's brother Robert, who will figure heavily in the last book of the series. A good, fun read.
This was a fun book. There are several intimate scenes so readers beware. I found they were very tastefully done and did not detract from the plot. The characters were bright and fun, the chemistry between the leads was explosive. I am positively drooling over Robert and I hope he gets his own story. Very well-written, great plot, amusing dialogue. Very highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.
I was intrigued by the challenge the three girlfriends presented. While Lady Georgiana, the first to improvise her plan, it not only had desired outcome but resolved a 6 year feud/misunderstanding.
I loved the dynamic of Lord Dare's family from the eccentric aunts to the boisterous brothers & the way Gerogiana was able to reach the war ravaged brother.
I'll look forward to more of Suzanne Enoch's writing.
I love this book--I'm not certain why this one is so appealing to me , but I do. I think it's how wonderfully written Lord Dare's family is and I like all the books in which his family appears. I do have a hard time believing that he is the rake Enoch implies him to be at times, because his character is just too likeable from the very beginning for that. Still, a good book. The best written one in the series is England's Perfect Hero, though, about Tristian's brother Robert.
I have enjoyed several of Enoch's books, this is not my favorite . It started slowly and I initially didn't like either the H or h. He had treated her callously in the past, and she was bitter, with good reason. Neither of them seemed able to communicate or recognize anything good about each other. Then they just became so frustrating to me that I just wanted to skip to the happy ending, which I knew would come, of course. The couple was well written, and obviously made for each other, despite their misunderstandings of each other.
The latter two books in the Lessons in Love trilogy are such gems that it's hard to believe this book was written by the same author. I actually rather liked Tristan. Since his past tryst with Georgiana, he clearly had changed and matured a lot. Georgiana, on the other hand… well, didn't. She was irrational and impulsive and acted like a petulant child through the majority of the story. There was also that scene toward the end of the book in which Tristan and Georgiana broke into the villain's house and became so aroused listening to the girl having sex with her lover that they just couldn't keep their hands to themselves and were caught fondling each other. Wow, such a cute and romantic scene. -_-
