I liked the cover and the premise of the book. For me, there wasn't much else to like. I have never read a book (Kindle edition) with such poor editing. A few grammatical errors and/or typos here and there…no big deal, but this book had so many it took away from the flow of the story. It also didn't take long to realize most of the dialogue was redundant.

I really disliked one of the main characters so much that I had trouble finishing this. Mellie (the book was told in her POV for all of it except 2 chapters) was rude, childish, and unprofessional. Jake was ok and because of that I longed for more of his POV especially after the first time they met (or technically saw each other).

I kept going as I thought I would see more plot development and it would get better. I was disappointed. It finished with an epilogue that was a build up to the next book in the series. There really wasn't a happily ever after for this couple.

This was the first time for me reading this author. Because I thought for sure I was going to love this one before I even read it, I actually pre-ordered the next one. Some books work for some and not for others. This one wasn’t for me, but I will give it another go.

The Upside to Being Single edition by Emma Hart Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

I just can’t even. I love love the writing style of Emma Hart I get super exited when I know she is coming up with a new book. I have been working my way to reading anything she has written but I’m late in the game I just started when I found Bieng Brook and I have followed her every release after that book but am still going back through all of her list and reading her books before that I think I’m just a little addicted to her books which by the way I am still waiting on what happens with Billie I want to know her story. But back to this one I loved it so much I read it twice already. I loved the way that Mellie and Jake met and I love Mellies friends and want to know what happens with them. I’m just obsessed I can’t help it just go and read all of Emmas Books they are so worth it.
I love Emma Hart's writing, I can always see the love she has for her characters and the excitement of writing their stories. This is a fun and extremely wild humorous story that follows a trio of friends who live in New Orleans. This on focuses Mellie and let me just say this girl is a hot mess, but I enjoyed watching her get herself together.

The Upside to Being Single follows Mellie and her two bestie Chloe and Peyton who on mardi gras dare each other to flash their boobs for the hell of it. Feeling like their loosing their youth with all the half dressed girls running around they thought, why the heck not. So they do, thinking they'll never see the guys they flash. Sadly for Mellie, she ends up finding out the one who caught her eye that night is now the new owner to the hotel she works for. Thus the chaos begins.

This story is a quick read, a lot of the focus is at their place of work, where it seems Mellie, even though shes fantastic at her job is a mess. She clumsy and Jake of course adds to it because he seems to appear at really bad times. Mellie is a fun character, but she really lacked the maturity I felt for her age and her actions, the way she talked was hard for me to not only follow but to enjoy her character. Jake was easier, the complete opposite of Mellie, very calm, charming and a little more professional, even though he kept hitting on her in the work place. I loved their chemistry and their development may have been messy and slow for my liking, in the end I was happy with how everything turned out.

The best parts for me were the secondary characters, Chloe and Peyton were cute, fun and they had a little more maturity for me to like. I can't wait for the next book because I'm hoping to see more about how Mellie and Jake are doing as well as seeing who Peyton ends up with!
REVIEW
Mellie let's her friends get her drunk and she enjoys the festivities at Mardi gras. Unbeknownst that the guy she locks eyes with during her wild hair moment is the new owner if the very hotel that she manages.
So, I wasn't sure how to feel about this book. It's the first from Emma Hart that I've read and the amazing cover pulled me in for a one click. But..... I'm a little disappointed. The plot was good but the length left something to be desired.
I also felt like this book could have used another scrub from the editor. There was more than a few grammar and spelling mistakes. I can normally look past this but there were more than the norm.
The banter between the characters was charming and cute. But the steam was lacking. I felt like the whole book was based on the Mardi Gras event and didn't develop past that point.
In my opinion this book was more young adult than contemporary. It has such potential and I really hope that the book is revamped and maybe a few chapters added. It felt rushed as the end. I would totally give it another chance if I knew it had been improved.
Overall, great story line. Great plot. Cute and funny like any rom com. But falls just a little short. I would love to read another from this author though. Any suggestions? ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book put me to sleep more than once. Millie's character was all over the place and I got tired of reading about her boss having seen her boobs. After the second chapter I thought we'd move on but having to read 12 chapters before I get a break was maddening. I kept reading because I thought it would get better and by the time I realized it wouldn't I'd already invested to much time in it and decided to see how the author would bring it together. Usually after reading a book I'm made to want to read more from the author but considering this is NOT the first book from this writer I'm not interested in reading anything else. Another issue I had was that the book was not proof- read for spelling errors or extra words added to sentences.
